The Tibetan Rites

I have been feeling tired for the past few weeks. Low energy due to the lack of sleep even though I was exercising regularly. But I guess the recent upset of my sleep hours and poor diet habits due to work, had led me to be in not feeling the best of health. I came across an interesting blog with an article on the Five Tibetan Rites.
The Tibetan Rites are just simple exercises which you performed on a daily basis to give you health and energy. These are the exercises that the ancient tibetan monks have been performing to keep themselves fit and healthy and live a long vibrant life. Pretty amazing… Just minutes a day to keep yourself fit, healthy and energised? Give it to me anyday…. each of us have only 24 hours a day. But if we can have more energy to do more within the 24 hours, I am definitely sold!
I noticed that the exercises are similar to some of the yoga poses except maybe for one. The exercises are to be performed in sequence starting with 3 repetitions. The first exercise is spinning. This is much like what I used to do as a kid, spinning round and round and round clockwise. The second one is lying on your back and raising your legs repetitively. Next is a pose which is like yoga pose, Camel whereby you kneel down, with hips high and then bend backwards for a couple of times. The next pose is like doing a table top with your chest facing the ceiling and the hands and feet on the floor. Then the final one is just the regular yoga pose where your body is an “inverted V” or what they call in yoga, downward dog.
These are very easy to do exercises that everyone can do. I think the whole set of exercise probably only takes 5-10 minutes and the best part is probably you won’t even sweat….

I have only tried the exercises yesterday. So far, I do feel slightly energised (the spinning is good! I felt free…). I hope to fit in another session during lunch today.

I’ve been performing “Five Tibetan Rites” for more than 16 years and I am more than passionate about them! They are so amazingly powerful! They perfectly accompany my “extremely wild” way of living, by sleeping 2, 3, sometimes even 4! hours per day. I perform 21 rites 2 to 3 times per day, and I also run a lot. And just one note…I do sweat while performing the Rites, because with time you perform them much stronger and with longer breathing pauses.

Thanks for sharing with me your experience. 16 years is a very long time indeed.
This sounds like the best exercise for me since I also have a “wild” life of sleeping only 4 hours a day. But in the morning, I often felt tired.
You are doing 21 repetitions with heavy breathing which I think probably why you are perspiring (think yoga’s uijayi breath… which creates much heat).
But when I did my 3 repetitions this morning, I did not break a sweat… yet.
It is great to see that this Five Tibetan Rites have helped you!

The five rites are amazing. I started doing them four years ago. I do them once a day. When I travel I sometimes do them twice. Benefits? For one, they have become a daily ritual, a part of waking up, my morning meditation. Second, I do feel a lot more energized than ever before. I am more aware of my body and seem to enjoy it more. My body seems to have kicked into a higher gear… I keep looking for opportunities like this to see how other people express what they feel are the benefits they have derived from staying with the 5 Tbts. I most definitely recommend them to anyone who can muster the discipline to do them regularly. Nelson.
